by Seth Azria on 5/01/2001
Cause
Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) will suspend a license if:

- A Driver under 18 years old accumulates 4 points in 12 months; or,
- A driver under 18 years old is convicted of a 4 point violation.

Resolution
A driver's first suspension from points may be lifted immediately upon the completion of an approved defensive driving course. To apply for the suspension lift, a driver must present the defensive driving completion certificate to the DDS and pay a $200 fee online, $210 in person.
This suspension will remain indefinitely unless the fee is paid and the course completed. There are no accommodations for those lacking finances or scheduling conflicts.
During a first suspension for point accumulation, you may get a Limited Driving Permit. For second points based suspension, the fees increase to $300 but you still may secure a Limited Driving Permit. For a third points-based suspension, the fees increase to $400 and you will not be eligible for a Limited Driving Permit.
